The protocol that makes IoT affordable for SMEs.
LoRaWAN sounds technical. The advantage is simple: more range, longer battery life, and lower costs than any alternative.
What is LoRaWAN?
LoRaWAN stands for Long Range Wide Area Network. It is a wireless communication protocol specifically designed for IoT sensors. The core idea: send small amounts of data over long distances, with minimal power consumption.
In plain English: your sensor sends a message a few times an hour to a gateway (a small box you hang somewhere). That gateway forwards it to your dashboard via the internet. That's all.
The difference with WiFi or 4G? LoRaWAN reaches much farther (up to 15 km in open fields, through multiple concrete floors inside buildings), uses much less power (battery lasts 3 to 10 years), and costs much less per sensor.
Why we choose this
Range — One gateway covers an entire business site, a complete office building, or an industrial park. No need for dozens of access points like with WiFi.
Battery life — Sensors run 3 to 10 years on one battery. No need to run cables, no need to look for outlets.
Cost — LoRaWAN sensors cost a fraction of comparable 4G or WiFi sensors. The gateway is a one-time investment.
Open standard — LoRaWAN is an open protocol. You are not tied to one supplier. Our sensors work with any LoRaWAN network — not just ours.
Proven technology — Millions of sensors worldwide run on LoRaWAN. In smart cities, agriculture, logistics, and building management. This is not an experiment — this is standard.
What does that look like in practice?
You mount a sensor — that takes 15 minutes. The sensor automatically finds the nearest gateway. Data starts flowing to your Mithra dashboard. Done.
Need 3 sensors? No problem. Need 300? That works too. The network scales effortlessly. And as Dragino specialists, we know every sensor type in the stack: temperature, flow, distance, energy, air quality, dry contact, AI detection — you name it.
Curious which sensors fit your situation? We’d be happy to think along with you.
